You could purchase drones in UPGRADE.

After you unlock a drone, it means that you have a chance to get the drop of that drone during the fight. There’s no way to equip drones before the level starts. You could only get drones equiped during the game. Touch the dropped drone with your ship and it will help you fight for ten seconds.
